Now, Oyamazakic YAMAGUCHI Akira December 11 - March 8, 2009

Exhibition introduction

@YAMAGUCHI Akira (1969- ) is an artist who has the superb painting technique and unique approach toward paintings. He refers to the traditional Japanese painting like Yamato-e and creates his paintings by combining the contemporary and past elements.
@In the exhibition gNow, Oyamazaki... YAMAGUCHI Akira,h Yamaguchi exhibits new works of art. He was inspired from the history of Oyamazaki. There was the Battle in Yamazaki between HASHIBA Hideyoshi and AKECHI Mitsuhide in 1582. Yamaguchi portrayed both of the samurai warriors in his new paintings. In Yamaguchifs one of the main works of this exhibition, Last Supper, pensive Mitsuhide eats his last dinner with his comrade. Yamaguchi depicts Mitsuhide and his fellows in a very peculiar way, which may evoke the viewer something mysterious. His thirty-five works are disclosed in his first exhibition in Kansai.
