Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art is pleased to present an exhibition of Swiss picture books encapsulating the country’s cultural richness.
Ernst Kreidolf became one of Europe’s leading illustrators by creating numerous illustrated books, most notably Flower Fairy Tales featuring anthropomorphic Alpine plants. Hans Fischer achieved fame with illustrations for Pitschi; The Traveling Musicians of Bremen; and other publications demonstrating his distinctive drawing style composed of layered, exuberant lines. Felix Hoffmann’s The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids—originally a homemade gift intended for his child—has become a children’s classic with a wide readership both in Japan and the world.
Held in partnership with Foundation of Picture-Book Museum in Nagano Prefecture, this exhibition welcomes viewers into the fantastic and slightly frightening world of Swiss picture book illustration through some 70 exhibits including original artworks, lithographs, and books with hand-painted illustrations.

This cake is inspired by the candy house in Hansel and Gretel.
The main body of this candy house is made of two parts: an upper part featuring chocolate cream and cocoa sponge, and a lower part comprising strawberry-flavored pound cake. The roof and door are crisp sablé cookies, while the roof ridge is decorated with vanilla-flavored buttercream.
This is a sweet pastry from the Engadin, a beautiful mountainous region in southeastern Switzerland.
It is a crisp pastry filled with plenty of caramel-flavored nougat containing pieces of aromatic walnuts. Enjoy perfect harmony between the gentle sweet flavor of caramel and the sourness of a dry cranberry topping.
