Sculptures of Joan Miró from the Asahi Beer Collection

Joan Miró (1893-1983), born in Barcelona, the capital of the Catalonian region of Spain, broke fresh ground with the works of art he created featuring motifs of birds, women and stars against the background of the natural environment of his hometown. A leading artist in the 20th century, Miró explored the world of free expression until his death at age 90.
Although he is best known as a painter, Miró was also passionately engaged in other areas as well as painting. Since 1944, he worked extensively in sculpture, producing a number of exquisite pieces.

In this exhibition, 14 sculptures from the museum’s collection will be put on display for the public.
Together with Miró’s paintings, the exhibition will explore the artist’s subjects of fancy, such as birds, women and figures, as we introduce the charm of Miró’s works of art that glow with vitality.

~Signature Sweets to Commemorate the Exhibition of the Works of Joan Miró ~

Special sweets crafted in the image of the two capitals of Joan Miró’s native city of Barcelona and Paris, where he produced a number of celebrated works, are now on offer.

“Red Cake”

This cake has been designed on the red shade of passion associated with Joan Miró from Barcelona, the capital of the province of Catalonia, Spain.
The sponge cake has been baked using tomato powder and the deep black tones of black cocoa for coloring, sandwiched between layers of orange cream and topped with the brilliant colors of blood orange and rose jam.

“Blue Jelly”

This blue jelly combined with cake is inspired by France’s savarin to celebrate Joan Miró, who was an active member of the artistic community in Paris, France.
Savarin is a traditional French sweet made by infusing syrup and spirits into Brioche, a type of bread.
This savarin-style strawberry cake and blue curacao jelly covered with orange syrup is served with a pistachio-flavored macaron and chocolate biscuit.
