Next year, Asahi Breweries, Ltd. will have its 120th anniversary. To celebrate this fact, Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art holds an exhibition “The Collection of Blue: Picasso’s Blue & Monet’s Blue”. Blue is Asahi Breweries' corporate colour.
There are various blues seen in works in the exhibition.
The expression of water and sky portrayed in Claude MONET's painting, Water Lilies and the melancholic atmosphere of Pablo PICASSO's work, A Woman Resting Her Chin on Her Hand, which is one of the rare pieces in his blue period, are outstanding.
You can enjoy seeing the different variations of blue of pottery, such as cobalt and namako (like the colour of sea cucumber) glazed pottery produced by Kanjiro KAWAI and metal-like blue glazed works made by Lucie LIE.

We also exhibit some textiles printed by Keisuke SERIZAWA. Their indigo colour is called "Japanese Blue".
The colour, blue, is quite diverse. You can look at various tones, hues, effects and meanings of blue.
There are about 100 works of painting, pottery and textiles in the exhibition.
We hope you will appreciate these objects through the different blues.
