Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum of ArtOyamazaki-cho, which is located on the border in-between Osaka and Kyoto, is the smallest town in Kyoto-fu. In the ancient era of Oyamazaki, a monumental bridge named Yamazakibashi bridge was built across the river Yodo. By crossing this bridge, people, goods, and culture were carried from the capital Kyoto to countries and vice versa. The Yamazakibashi bridge was broken apart in the 11th century.
1000 years after the disappearance of the Yamazakibashi bridge, three artists - Tsuyoshi Ozawa, Selina Ou and Paramodel - visited Oyamazaki-cho. They looked around this idyllic town and created their new art works by their collaboration with local people. In the exhibition Art as a Bridge, they exhibit these works in both Asahi Beer Oyamazaki villa Museum of Art and other sites in the town. The exhibition hopefully can cross the bridge between the contemporary and the ancient, and the people in the town and the artists. We hope the exhibition will link to the next 1000years.
Profile
Tsuyoshi OZAWA (Born 1965 in Tokyo. Lives in Chiba.)
Tsuyoshi OZAWA is a contemporary artist who humorously reimagines the meaning of mundane objects and seeks out their essence. His series of work Vegetable Weapon, made all over the world, involves finding a female model in a town where he has been invited, and having her decide on a local dish to prepare. Then he composes a gun and takes photographs of her holding a gun made of the ingredients of that dish. After the shooting, the model cooks and a party is thrown where everyone involved is able to try the food. The entire process is considered to be the work. He created two new works in Oyamazaki and exhibited them both in the Museum and in the Rikyuhachimangu shrine.

Selina OU (Born 1977 in Malaysia. Lives in Melbourne, Australia)
Selina Ou is a young photographer living in Australia. She presents photography works in which she captures people at work in various countries. For this exhibition, she stayed in Enmyojigaoka apartments in Oyamazaki for about a month and walked around the town carrying a big backpack filled with photographic equipment. Although Oyamazaki-cho is the smallest town in Kyoto-fu, there are a variety of areas in town; residential area, the art museum, sightseeing spots, temples and shrines, rice fields and farms. She took photographs of people in this town and exhibited the works both in the Museum and in Oyamazaki-ward House.

Yasuhiko HAYASHI (Born 1971 and lives in Higashi-Osaka.)
Yusuke NAKANO (Born 1976 and lives in Higashi-Osaka.)
Paramodel is an art unit from Higashi-Osaka city consisting of Yasuhiko HAYASHI and Yusuke NAKANO and each has his own specialization. Their concept is: paradise, the glorious view, poetic plastic models and blue prints of paradox. They create works with various media using two different visions concurrently. For this exhibition, they held one workshop in which children used toy rails named plarail, and another one portraying a bridge. They completed their works after these workshops. They also made an installation combining toys and industrial products. Their works are exhibited both in the Museum and in Oyamazaki Meeting House.
